Understanding Internet Marketing

Many companies that understand the value of internet are using this key resource to leverage their sales. These companies are using internet to satisfy the needs of their customers. Marketers are also using internet to reach as many people as possible and then convert them into actual customers. Internet advertising has therefore become a very important tool for marketers to increase their customer base.

Web marketing is a term that refers to advertising products and services online in order to drive sales. This method of marketing involves using electronic commerce, websites, affiliates, emails and search engine optimization in order to generate more revenue. Marketing has significantly changed in that it has become less expensive and in some cases, even free.Companies are using different types of web marketing to reach their goals. One affordable and rapidly growing method is use of organic traffic. Most marketers use content to drive traffic to their websites by providing valuable information to their customers. The content is written in such a way that it can be easily found by people searching online. This is called search engine optimisation where the marketer uses certain key words to increase page ranking and hence increase page visibility.

To achieve the desired results, the content must be consistent, unique and relevant to the intended reader. Once a company blog becomes a trusted source of information, customers will more often than not start using the advertised products.Another common but relatively expensive type of online marketing is banner advertising. Banner ads are image-based and are used to get a web visitor from the website that is hosting the advert to go to the advertiser’s website. The advertiser pays per click (for every visitor who clicks on the ad and goes to the website), cost per impression (for every visitor who sees the advert) or cost per action (for every visitor who clicks on the advert, goes to the website and makes a purchase or completes a defined call to action).

Other types of online marketing that are used include email marketing where the company sends emails to their customers and subscribers to inform of them about new products, a sale or any information that will drive the customer to their website. Affiliate marketing is another type of online marketing where companies or individuals earn commissions from promoting other companies’ products. Most marketers prefer to use web marketing compared to other traditional methods such as TV and newspapers because it is easy to track the return on investment. Guesswork is eliminated because the tools used to advertise will show them important details like the number of visitors, number of clicks, the number of purchases based on the advert and so on.

The web marketers can then use that information to make improvements on the ads and hence increase web traffic and consequently drive more sales online. This has made it extremely easy for small businesses to grow and become successful within a short period of time. What’s even more rewarding is that internet has made it possible for businesses to engage more with their customers thereby improving customer relationships.
